The objects contained in the Constitution of the I.B.E.W. are:
- To organize all workers in the entire electrical industry in the United States and Canada, including all those in public utilities and electrical manufacturing, into local unions
- To promote reasonable methods of work
- To cultivate feelings of friendship among those of our industry
- To settle all disputes between employers and employees by arbitration (if possible)
- To assist each other in sickness or distress
- To secure employment
- To reduce the hours of daily labour
- To secure adequate pay for our work
- To seek a higher and higher standard of living
- To seek security for the individual
And by legal and proper means, to elevate the moral, intellectual and social conditions of our members, their families and dependents, in the interest of a higher standard of citizenship.

Local 1611 has over 6,000 members in various sectors. Our members are a diverse group of skilled individuals working on British Columbia’s most influential projects, some of which have included: the Kitimat Modernization Project, all BC Hydro Electric Dams, Sea-to-Sky Highway Phase 1 & 2 and the Vancouver Island Highway.
As a trade union with almost 125 years of experience, DC38 has a long history of protecting the rights of its members. DC38 represents and strives to train the highest-skilled tradespeople in British Columbia, assisting Union Contractors to safely sell quality.
The key to their continued success is pre-job safety training, a well-rounded apprenticeship, and continuous upgrading at their training facility the Finishing Trades Institute of BC. With their most recent addition of 14,000 square feet of shared space, the FTI BC now boasts over 40,000 square feet of total training space.
United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry is a multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of piping systems. There are approximately 326,000 highly-skilled United Association members who belong to over 300 individual local unions across North America.
The UA boasts the premier training programs available in the industry today, including five-year apprenticeship programs, extensive journeyman training, organized instructor training, and certification programs.
The membership of Local 276 consists of highly trained men and women applying their skills in the Sheet Metal and Roofing Industries on Vancouver Island. The very diverse nature of these trades in the Industrial, Commercial & Institutional, Shipbuilding and Residential sectors along with ever changing technologies require their members to be dedicated to their craft. Local 276 ensures that a well trained and versatile work force is available to meet the needs of the customer on any construction or fabrication project.
The Machinists’ Fitters & Helpers Industrial Union Local No. 3 represents industrial workers in the following industries on Vancouver Island: Ship Building and Ship Repair, Manufacturing and Supply.
Their members are certified Machinists, Mechanics, Metal Fabricators, Welders, Level 3 First Aid, Stores-Shipping/Receiving, Truck Drivers, Helpers and Labourers.
They represent workers on Vancouver Island at the Department of National Defence – Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton, Victoria Shipyards Co. Ltd., Nicholson Manufacturing Ltd., Ramsay Machine Works Ltd., Nanaimo Foundry & Engineering Works Ltd. and Air Liquide Canada.
Boilermakers 191 is a metal trades union located in Victoria, British Columbia. Local 191 was chartered on October 23, 1951 and membership stands at 300+ members who work in:
- Ship Building / Ship Repair
- Steel Fabrication of Logging Equipment, Pressure Vessels and Structural Steel
- Refitting of Naval Ships and Submarines
MoveUP represents more than 12,000 union members at public and private sector companies in Western Canada.
MoveUp is Local 378 of the COPE National Union, which represents over 30,000 members, and are affiliated with the BC Federation of Labour, the Canadian Labour Congress, and provincial labour councils. They are also affiliated with UNI Global Union and IndustriALL Global Union through their national union.
